Some babies make a dramatic entrance - and Jimmy, born on the side of a road last month certainly did.
Arriving into the world a day earlier than expected on March 4th, Jimmy could not wait to meet his mum Tayla and dad Jack. When it became clear that their baby was not waiting for a hospital delivery, Jack pulled the car over, dialled Triple Zero immediately and was connected with Emergency Communications Officer, Monet Stitt-Jones.
“Tell me exactly what happened” Monet says on the call.
“We're having a baby!” Jack replies, “We're pulled over at an intersection.”
Yesterday, the Pyle family, including big sister Dottie, reunited with Monet, whose calm instructions helped guide Tayla and Jack through a roadside birth, supporting the couple every step of the way by providing clear, steady guidance to keep both Tayla and her baby safe.
“Monet was unreal. She kept me calm and talked me through it step by step. Looking back, it's pretty special to have been part of bringing Jimmy into the world” Jack said.
“They were incredible" Monet replied “Tayla was so strong, and Jack followed every instruction perfectly. He was my eyes on the scene, relaying essential information that helped guide Tayla through they birth.”
Throughout the delivery, Jack remained calm and focused, offering unwavering support to Tayla while relaying crucial details to Monet, who guided them moment by moment through one of the most emotional experiences of their lives.
To make the story even more extraordinary, their son was born still inside the amniotic sac - a rare event that only occurs for one in every 80,000 births - with Jack having to rip it open to assist in Jimmy's delivery
“I'm just grateful that we had the Triple Zero team there to get us through” he said, “To actually put the face to the voice that helped us out so much is amazing, she did an amazing job, we're very lucky.”
“We kind of knew when we dropped Dottie off [with my parents] that we weren't really going to make it [to hospital]” Tayla said, “But Jimmy is really good. He's a happy, smiley little boy and Dottie just loves being a big sister.”
“It's a perfect outcome” added Jack.
With baby Jimmy in her arms, Monet expressed her happiness at being able to meet the family she assisted; “It's been surreal today, to be honest. I've never met anybody that I've helped on the phone before. It's just really exciting to be part of something so special.”
